Berlin Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2011 by Katia Mossina and Natasha Binar

Berlin is not Milan, London or Paris. That is clear since the last fashion season, but the question remains: what is the identity of this city as a fashion capital? The two biggest fashion fairs in Europe Premium and Bread & Butter take place here, in Berlin. And then there are shows at Bebelplatz, the official location, and countless off-site presentations, all together entertaining enough to capture the attention of the media, local celebrities and buyers.
We were almost everywhere, and now we formed an estimate.
Fashion and art are inseparable in Berlin.  At the opening of Berlin fashion week, the Recollecting Quartett exhibition featuring Willhelm, Peter Pilotto, Henrik Vibskov and Mikio Sakabe presented version of Mercedes Young Classics. We say: if it works well at Fashion Museum of Antwerp and NYC' MoMA, it will have in Berlin a success.
The next day  the duo A.F.Vandevorst opened the show and presented the Belgian fashion at it`s best. Hair was a little problem for the models, but it`s not important for us.
All shows after that in Boss, Kaviar Gauche, mongrels in common have one message: “Fashion made in Germany – it`s seriously and adultly”.
Our favorite is the collection of "mongrels in common". Excellent cut, quality materials and sophisticated signature of the two designers.
Our other favorite was David Tomaszewski. That he makes beautiful clothes, we already knew, but his cardigans and jackets became a real revelation.
Format of the presentation of Frida Weyer  was a bit more relaxed for the press, and very pleasant. Dresses by Frida Weyer collection could be in our dressing room.
On Saturday when Katia had a rest, Natasha was at the show of Vladimir Karaleev. Great! Vladimir has managed to create consistent, thought-through pieces without much of attention-seeking side effects ( live bands, movie premiere and such). Fashion pure.

In summary,  Berlin  Fashion Week is a a very good mix of fun, creativity and commerce!

KATIA MOSSINA & A.F. Vandevorst

Katia Mossina visited show of her friends A.F. Vandevorst during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2011 at Bebelplatz on January 19, 2011 in Berlin, Germany:

By 2005, the Belgian design duo was showcasing Katia’s collections at the prestigious Fashion Museum in Antwerp.

By integrating these clichés into the scenography of the exhibition, A.F. Vandevorst makes us rediscover modern Russia. Like the Russian dolls which hold inside them a series of smaller dolls, the exhibition comprises several dimensions in which the historical collection of clothing of the State Historical Museum of Moscow is confronted with ever different contexts.
